BACOLOD City – The damage caused by fire here in 2021 was pegged at P9,089,150 according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in the city.
Based on data released by the BFP, they have recorded a total of 206 fire incidents in 2021, far lower compared to the 262 incidents recorded in 2020.
Electrical post fires topped in fire incidents with 85 recorded in 2021, followed by residential fires at 45, and grass fires at 36.
The most fire incidents occurred in December 2021 with a total of 52 incidents, while November was the most costliest month in terms of damage at P1,886,700.
There were no fatalities recorded in 2021 fire incidents, although the BFP recorded six fire-related injuries.
As the observance of this year’s Fire Prevention Month begins tomorrow, March 1, the BFP in Bacolod also released a list of barangays they identified as critical fire prone areas.
They are Barangays 1, 2, 10, 12, 16, 19, 20, 28, 30, 31, 34, 35, and 40.
Also in the list are Barangays Alangilan, Bata, Banago, Cabug, Estefania, Felisa, Granada, Handumanan, Mansilingan, Pahanocoy, Punta Taytay, Sum-ag, Singcang-Airport, Taculing, Tangub, Villamonte, and Vista Alegre.
The BFP also clarified that the barangays they identified have certain puroks which are fire prone./PN
