PAVIA, Iloilo — After being halted for two months due to the surge in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections, Gametime Invitational Volleyball League is set to resume on March 5 at the Pavia Covered Gym.
According to Gametime founder Rodolfo Go Villaruz, he got a go signal from Mayor Luigi Gorriceta for the resumption of the league after the downgrading of Iloilo Province to Alert Level 2 beginning yesterday.
“We are thankful to Mayor Gorriceta for granting our request for the resumption of the league. The players have been very excited to return to the court,” Villaruz told Panay News on Tuesday.
Prior to this Saturday’s matches, Gametime only managed to play its opening day games last Dec. 28, 2021 before the league was forced to postpone its games.
To mark the return of Gametime, Villaruz said eight volleyball matches are on tap on March 5 – four each for men’s and women’s division.
In the men’s division, Team Unitas will make a debut against Zarraga Pantat Spikers at 8:30 a.m., while Team Arangka Pavia will try to enter the win column when they face debuting Pythons at 9:30 a.m.
At 10:30 a.m., debuting teams IDC Alumni and Arteestic Aces will shoot for their first win, while opening day winners Team Dumangas and San Miguel Latinos will collide at 3:30 p.m.
In the women’s division, veteran-laden team of Olis WVT aims to bounce back from opening day loss when they face J.Blazers at 11:30 a.m., while Unicorns faces UCV at 12:30 p.m.
At 1:30 p.m., Lady Pythons are set to square off with Maddyline squad before concluding the distaff side action with AC aiming for its second win against Lionesses.
“As shown in the first day of our competition, each game is very unpredictable since every team had their strengths,” said Villaruz. “Even if there are some players who have Manila experience, our local players will keep in step with them.”/PN
