CENECO: Submarine cable charges fully refunded

BACOLOD City – Central Negros Electric Cooperative (CENECO) announced that the refund of the charges for the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines’ (NGCP) damaged Cebu-Negros submarine cable has been fully implemented.

NGCP’s submarine cable in Amlan, Negros Oriental was damaged in June 2021, resulting to power rates soaring in Negros and Panay islands.

The charges collected in the billing months of June, July and August 2021 were refunded in the billing months of November 2021, December 2021 and January 2022, respectively.

CENECO officer-in-charge Jose Taniongon said the refund was reflected in the generation rate and the implementation of the adjustment was based on the computation of the Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines (IEMOP).

A total of P279,559,295.83 was refunded to consumers from November 2021 to January 2022,he added.
