ILOILO – The Schools Division of Iloilo has recommended 289 public and private elementary and secondary schools for limited face-to-face classes.
It believes that these schools meet the parameters for the resumption of in-person classes albeit not on the scale before the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic struck, according to Leonil Salvilla, information officer of the Schools Division of Iloilo.
The parameters are the following:
* the area where the school is located is under pandemic Alert Level 1 or 2
* the local government unit concerned has given its concurrence for limited in-person classes
* the learners’ parents have given their consent
* the school has contingency or emergency plans
* the school has complied with the Safety Assessment Tool
Out of the 1,179 private and public schools in Iloilo province, the Department of Education (DepEd) has so far allowed only 80 to resume limited face-to-face classes.
The 289 schools being recommended for in-person classes were from the following towns and districts:
* 1st District – Guimbal, Igbaras, Miag-ao, Oton, San Joaquin, Tigbauan, Tubungan
* 2nd District – Alimodian, Leganes, Leon, New Lucena, San Miguel, Santa Barbara, Zarraga
* 3rd District – Badiangan, Bingawan, Cabatuan, Calinog, Janiuay, Lambunao, Maasin, Mina, Pototan
* 4th District – Anilao, Barotac Nuevo, Dueñas
* 5th District – Ajuy, Balasan, Barotac Viejo, Batad, Carles, Concepcion, Estancia, Lemery, San Dionisio, San Rafael, Sara
According to Salvilla, the Regional Composite Team of DepEd Region 6 will be inspecting the schools this week. The approval will also come from them.
Among others, the team will check if the schools have hand-washing facilities, foot baths, disinfectants, thermometers to monitor body temperature, facemasks, and if the classrooms have good ventilation.
“We are hoping ma-approve ang 289 schools so that maka-start sila sa May kay ma-end sa June 24 ang classes for this school year,” said Salvilla./PN
