MIWD wants additional water bacteriological test

ILOILO City – The Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) requested for Flo Water Resources Iloilo, Inc. to operate the latter’s water plant for a follow through bacteriological test to be conducted supposedly yesterday.

The additional test was supposed to be apart from the first two tests of water samples taken on Tuesday.

MIWD OIC general manager Amarylis Josephine Castro explained that the additional test should serve as a follow through test in case the samples taken on Tuesday would turn out positive in the bacteriological test.

She added that with the supposed additional test, they would save time if Tuesday’s result will come out positive.

Tuesday’s test result is expected to be released today, Thursday. If positive, another test will be taken today and the consumers will wait for another 24 to 48 hours before another result will come out, said Castro.

“Kon mag negative ang Tuesday nga test result, pasudlon ang tubig. Pero mag positive, makuha naman liwat sang sample. Amo na ang rason kon ngaa nag-request ako kon pwede makakuha kami additionalsampletoday (Wednesday)…just in case nga mag-positive ang test result buas (Thursday), the waiting time of the people will not be long. Kay kon buas ka pa makuha sa udto, ma-count ka naman number of hours before makuha ang result,” Castro explained.

However, Castro said, Flo Water did not agree to operate its plant yesterday for the additional test.

The lady general manager said the bacteriological test is not a flimsy procedure imposed by MIWD. It is safety protocol.

“It is intended to protect the health and safety of the public. Water ingested that doesn’t pass the standard could cause diseases,” said Castro.

“We are just protecting the interest of the public. Public health is paramount at all cost,” she stressed./PN
