KALIBO, Aklan – The province of Aklan logged 145 cases of dengue from Jan. 1 to June 25, the Provincial Health Office said.
Double-digit cases were recorded in the towns of Ibajay (28), Kalibo (24), Malay (21) and Nabas (16).
On the other hand, the towns of Banga, Balete, Numancia and Buruanga have seven cases each, followed by Makato and Lezo with five cases each; and Tangalan, New Washington and Malinao with four cases each.
Libacao reported three dengue cases; Batan, two; and one each in Madalag and Altavas.
The province also recorded two dengue fatalities from Banga and Numancia.
Fifteen new cases were tallied for morbidity week June 19 to 25, bringing the total to 145.
Provincial Health Officer I Dr. Cornelio Cuachon reminded the public to observe and practice the 4S strategies:
* search and destroy mosquito breeding sites
* self-protection
* seek early consultation
* support fogging in hotspot areas
The Provincial Health Office monitored a clustering of cases in Argao, Malay and Buenavista, Nabas with three or more cases in four consecutive weeks.
According to Cuachon, the Provincial Health Officeis taking pro-active actions to curb the rising cases in the clustered barangays.
Dengue is an acute viral infection transmitted by dengue-carrying mosquitoes, mainly of the species Aedes aegypti.
Symptoms usually last for 2-7 days, after an incubation period of 4-10 days after the bite from an infected mosquito./PN
