MANILA – Bacolodnon Celine Elizabeth Marsh is taking her talents to Metro Manila. She has committed to play her remaining high school years with National University Lady Bullpups.
The Filipina-British volleybelle opted to go with the reigning UAAP juniors girls volleyball champions despite receiving several offers from Manila-based schools the past few years.
“I chose to commit to the National University Lady Bullpups amid offers from other schools because it is where I see myself growing as a volleyball player,” Marsh told Panay News on Sunday.
“I am extremely excited to play for coach Vilet (Ponce de Leon) and the Lady Bullpups and in the UAAP because it is a higher level of competition,” added the 5-foot-11 opposite hitter.
Marsh was one of the prized volleyball players from Trinity Christian School in Bacolod City and was part of the squad that captured the NOPSSCEA Season 37 elementary girls volleyball championship.
The Bacolodnon volleybelle was supposed to play for the Philippine U-18 girls volleyball team of head coach Jerry Yee earlier this year but last-minute changes in the tournament have hampered her national team stint.
The 16-year-old Marsh, who was also into modelling, was still part of the Trinity Christian School offseason training until she recently decided to accept the offer from the Lady Bulldogs.
“I must admit transferring to National University was a hard decision at first but I believe that this decision will help me in the long run and will make me a better volleyball player,” Marsh said.
“I know that I have to adapt to the winning culture of the Lady Bullpups but I am willing to double my effort to improve my game further and also help them in their upcoming games,” she added.
The Lady Bullpups, which won over De La Salle Zobel Junior Lady Spikers in UAAP Season 82 juniors volleyball, is on a massive rebuilding as almost half of its players have already moved up to the collegiate ranks./PN
