ILOILO City – A magnitude 5.1 earthquake jolted Antique past noon on Saturday, Aug. 13.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the quake was tectonic in origin and struck 20 kilometers southwest of the municipality of Anini-y at 12:25 p.m. It was six kilometers deep.
Intensity IV (moderately strong) was felt in Anini-y, Tobias Fornier, and San Jose de Buenavista in Antique; while intensity III (weak) was reported in Belison and Sibalom in Antique; and Iloilo City and parts of Iloilo province.
No casualties or damage to properties were reported, according to Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer Broderick Train said, citing the monitoring of 18 Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (MDRRMOs).
But he said, “Ongoing gyapon ang assessment kang MDRRMO Anini-y kay may close coordination kita kananda, likewise ang pag-monitor sa anang aftershocks,” said Train.
The tremor was felt at Intensity II in Bugasong, Barbaza, and Patnongon, Antique; and Intensity I in Sebaste, Antique; Sipalay City, Negros Occidental; and Tapaz, Capiz.
According to Train, Phivolcs recorded a total of four tremors in Antique on Saturday, all with Anini-y as the epicenter.
The first was felt around 12:13 p.m. at 2.6 magnitude. The second was the 5.1 magnitude at around 12:25 p.m.
The third was 3.4 magnitude at around 12:27 p.m. and the fourth was 3.5 around 12:30 p.m.
Anini-y also experienced tremors thrice on Aug. 9, with 4.7 magnitude as the strongest.
