ILOILO City – With P19 million left, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 6 will hold a final payout for educational assistance this Saturday, Sept. 24.

Atty. May Rago-Castillo, DSWD-6 public information officer, said P19 million is what remains of the P26-million fund augmented by the central office last week.

A total of 7,105 qualified beneficiaries can be accommodated for the remaining fund, she added.

Here are the target beneficiaries: 736 in Aklan; 750 in Antique; 750 in Capiz; 400 in Guimaras; 550 in Iloilo City; 1,811 in Iloilo province; 1,571 in Negros Occidental; and 537 in Bacolod City.

Rago-Castillo said only those who received a text message or email from DSWD about the payout will be accommodated.

“No walk-in policy gihapon kita. Kun si sin-o lang ang makabaton sang mensahe nga ang petsa September 24 ang ila schedule, amo lang na makadto sa payout and assessment venues,” said Rago-Castillo.

The educational assistance is intended for students in crisis enrolled this school year, including breadwinners; working students; children of unemployed parents, solo parents, overseas Filipino workers in distress, those with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV); orphaned, abandoned or staying with their relatives; abused or displaced children; and victims of human-induced or natural calamities.

Qualified beneficiary enrolled in elementary grade will receive P1,000; P2,000 for secondary; P3,000 for senior high school; and P4,000, college/vocational course.

The cash assistance is limited to three children per family.

As much as DSWD-6 wanted to help, there is no fund available anymore, lamented Rago-Castillo.

As of Sept. 17, a total of 38,590 qualified student-beneficiaries from elementary, high school, senior high school, and college/vocational in the region have received educational assistance from DSWD through its Assistance for Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program.

For this, the regional office’s total cash disbursement reached P108,249,000.

To recall, DSWD-6 closed the online registration on Sept. 7; almost 600,000 applicants registered./PN
