BACOLOD City – The “Lights of Bago” event celebrated every New Year’s Day in Bago City, Negros Occidental will be postponed again for 2023, this time not because of the coronavirus pandemic but due to the city government’s budget cuts.
Mayor Nicholas Yulo said yesterday morning there would be 15 percent reduction in the city’s 2023 National Tax Allotment (NTA), previously referred to as the Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA), which amounts to P250 million.
Despite the budget cuts, Yulo assured the city’s residents that basic services would remain unaffected.
The annual “Lights of Bago” is a fireworks show.
The last event was held on Jan. 1, 2020, three months before the COVID-19 pandemic began./PN
