Man dies in Kalibo road mishap

AKLAN – A 29-year-old man died while his friend was injured in a vehicular accident on Osmeña Avenue in Barangay Tigayon, Kalibo, Aklan around 11:45 a.m. on Friday.

John Michael Andong of Barangay Linabuan Sur, Banga town died of severe head injuries while Willard Servales, 31, also of the same place, was confined at a Kalibo hospital for treatment.

Servales was driving and both were headed to Kalibo when their motorcycle accidentally slid on the road in an attempt to overtake a truck ahead, according to Police Lieutenant Colonel Bernard Ufano, Aklan Police Provincial Office deputy director for operations.

The victims were subsequently hit by the truck loaded with hollow blocks and driven by Vincent Mendoza, 52, of Barangay Estancia, Kalibo.

Mendoza was detained at the Kalibo police station. Charges of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide and frustrated homicide would be filed against him./PN
