ILOILO City – This southern city’s sole power distributor – MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power) – pledged stable power supply so as not to ruin this year’s face-to-face Dinagyang Festival celebrations.
As long as there is no problem in the grid or with the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) and no any untoward incidents,there won’t be power interruption especially during the festival’s highlight days on Jan. 21 to 22, said MORE Power’s senior assistant vice president of network operations, Engineer Bernard Bailey R. Del Castillo.
“Kasi sometimes it’s out of our control, the problem is in the NGCP… We are ready dito sa city in terms of facilities, capacity and also ‘yung substations natin are well-conditioned in preparation for the coming weekend events,” said Del Castillo.
MORE Power started preparing last week. This included feeder patrolling, making sure that power lines are cleared, surveying critical areas (especially in the Dinagyang judging areas), checking thermal scanning, and loading of the distribution transformers, among others.
Del Castillo said their response teams which include the line men are also ready for deployment. They will have line warriors on standby in designated areas as early as 7 a.m. until 1 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
“In case there are untoward incidents and uncontrollable outages, we can immediately respond, doon na kami sa area. We also understand na hindi ganun kadali ang pag-access especially during the time that the roads are closed,” said Del Castillo.
Since there will be a mobile phone signal jamming, Del Castillo said they have back-up hand-held radios that can be used for communication especially during emergencies./PN
