GUIMARAS – The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of this island province wants the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) – Region 6 to shed light on the mobile signal jamming spillover during the two-day Dinagyang Festival 2023 highlights in Iloilo City.
The supposed signal jamming for specific areas in Iloilo City extended to most of Guimaras.
Vice Gov. John Edward Gando said the SP approved the resolution authored by Board Member Alex Araneta requesting NTC-6 to appear in their next regular session on Tuesday, Jan. 31.
“May beses kon kaisa nga ma-ring, kis-a ma-untat sia. So, damo sang reklamo bala,” Gando shared his personal experience with Panay News this Thursday, Jan. 26.
The vice governor also received several complaints from students who needed mobile signals for research and school work.
He recalled that in previous Dinagyang Festivals, particularly before the pandemic, they only experienced minor interference in mobile phone signal.
Gando said NTC-6 could have informed them ahead of time for the public to prepare ahead of time.
“Daku gid nga huol ang dala sang signal jam,” he said.
The mobile phone signal jamming was approved only in the following selected areas in Iloilo City:
For Jan. 21 and 22, 2023, from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

* Rizal Mapa Street
* Plaza Libertad
* Provincial Capitol
From Jan. 21, 2023, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

* Iloilo Business Park, Megaworld

While the Guimaras SP understands the purpose of a signal jamming, Gando said: “Tani abisohan man bala kami…para indi maglibog ulo namon kag mapreparahan namon ang ina nga sitwasyon.”/PN
