ILOILO – A bus hit 13 other vehicles in Barangay Gines, Janiuay at around 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 26, killing one person and injuring 12 others.
The fatality was Christian Alutaya of Barangay Matag-ub, Janiuay. He died at the Iloilo Doctors’ Hospital.
The 12 others who were taken to the Federico Roman Tirador Sr. Memorial District Hospital for injuries were Glen Madis, Jose Veles, Rolet Porras, Norlyn Cubil, Rose Ann Celestial, Ledesma Luceno, Fatima Romarate, Jose Archie Cañoso, Alex Billena, Niel John Ledesma, Tracy Marie Borra, and Mhecca Ella Lhyza.
Bus driver Jay-ar Yco, 38, of Ajuy, Iloilo lost control of the bus; he claimed the brakes malfunctioned.
“Halin ini sa Cabatuan going to Janiuay proper. Upon reaching Barangay Gines, nagbuylo panaog iya salakyan without break,” said Police Captain Alwin Salmon.
He added: “May 13 nga nagkalain-lain nga salakyan nga ginpangdalasa niya. May ara nga Sportivo, Kawasaki nga angkar-angkar, Kia Sportage, Toyota Innova, Suzuki multicab, Kawasaki Bajaj with side car, Suzuki Raider, closed van, Terra jeep, Nissan Urvan, motorcycle Euro, Isuzu elf, kag Suzuki tricycle.”
The bus driver was detained at the Janiuay Municipal Police Station./PN
