BACOLOD City – As egg prices across the country soar, Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson assured Negrenses there is enough supply of eggs in Negros Occidental.
The retail price for medium-sized eggs is running at P9 – higher compared to last month’s P6.90.
According to Lacson, the price increase was expected, citing the rising inflation.
Dr. Placeda Lemana, officer-in-charge of the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO), said poultry feeds and supplements, fuel and labor costs increased.
Negros Occidental produces an average of 1.2 million eggs every day, according to Lemana. But the province is also accepting egg shipments from Bantayan Island in Cebu
On Jan. 24, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. tasked Agriculture undersecretary Domingo Panganiban to meet with egg producers and traders to know the reason behind the increase in egg prices despite enough supply in the market./PN
