ANTIQUE – Antique is one of the most peaceful provinces in the region, according to Police Regional Office 6 director Brigadier General Leo M. Francisco.

May mga days na zero ang eight focused crimes dito,” Francisco said after a command conference with the Antique Police Provincial Office (APPO) on Thursday, March 2.

The eight focused crimes include robbery, theft, homicide, murder, carnapping of vehicles, carnapping of motorcycles, rape and physical injury.

However, the top cop stressed the need to step up the campaign against cybercrime, noting that cases are increasing in the region just like the cases of violations of Republic Act 9262, or the Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) Act.

He also expressed concern for public safety as cases of road and motor accidents increased.

Francisco highlighted the intensified campaign of the PNP, in coordination with local government units, to ensure motorist compliance with traffic rules and regulations.

As for the upcoming barangay elections, Francisco said directives were already given to police commanders to account for loose firearms.

Police officers were also told to account for wanted persons as they could be exploited by unscrupulous individuals to sow fear during the election.

Francisco also lauded the support of the local government of Antique, headed by Gov. Rhodora J. Cadiao and Rep. Antonio Legarda, in assisting former rebels who returned to the folds of the law.

In partnership with the Philippine Army and other peacekeeping authorities, the PNP is optimistic that more rebels would lay down their arms.

He said that the surrender of some rebels is a positive development for the tourism industry that would eventually uplift the economy of the country. (PIA)/PN
