BACOLOD City – The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) in Negros Occidental advised pet and livestock owners to take precautionary measures against high temperatures.
PVO head Dr. Placeda Lemana said pets and livestock should have adequate access to drinking water and have vitamins to prevent heat-related illnesses.
Livestock farmers, said Lemana, should also make sure their hog and chicken pens are well-ventilated.
Carabaos and cattle, meanwhile, should be placed in the shade to prevent heat stroke.
And owners are told to regularly bathe their pets.
Lemana also warned that the high temperatures could cause stillbirths among pregnant pets and livestock.
Earlier, Negros Occidental’s Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said the province would be able to manage the upcoming dry season.
Aside from livestock, Lacson advised farmers to finish their harvest for this season and make preparations for next year.
The governor also disclosed that they would review assistance options for local farmers./PN
