ILOILO City – The Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) of the city government has proposed stiffer fines for traffic violations.
The proposal was endorsed by Mayor Jerry P. Treñas to the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) for approval by making amendments on the existing ordinances relative to traffic violations.
Citing an explanation from the PSTMO, the city mayor said the proposal aims to help lessen violators who undervalue the fines and penalties meted out in the existing ordinances of the city.
The proposed increase in fines on 13 traffic violations are the following:
* truck ban – from P500 to P1,000
* outside route tricycle – from P500 to P1,000
* no crash helmet – from P500 to P1,000
* expired driver’s license – from P500 to P1,000
* outside city loops – from P300 to P1,000
* illegal parking – from P300 to P1,000
* jaywalking – from P50 to P500
* route painted on windshield (public utility jeepney) – from P200 to P1,000
* colorum (tricycle) – from P1,000 to P1,500
* disregarding – from P200 to P500
* obstruction – from P200 to P1,000
* one way driving/driving without functional headlight/excess passenger/failure – from P300 to P500
PSTMO head Jeck Conlu is hopeful that with the proposed increase in fines, the number of traffic violators would go down.
“Kon madakpan kag mapenahan sang mas daku, sa sunod mahalong ka na gid nga indi ka na mag-violate sang aton traffic ordinances,” said Conlu.
He noted that those who follow traffic rules have nothing to be worried about.
Conlu said the proposed increase in penalties is based on the guidelines set by the Department of Finance and Department of Budget and Management./PN
