Cop shoots civilian

ILOILO – A police officer allegedly shot a civilian in Barangay Gines Viejo, Passi City,

Police Staff Sergeant Kenn James Leyble, 35, of the barangay, had an old dispute with victim Johan Padernal, 41.

Passi City Police Station chief Police Lieutenant Colonel Aaron Palomo, in an interview with RMN Iloilo, said the incident happened while they were holding a beauty pageant on Sunday, May 28, as part of their town fiesta.

Padernal was brought to the West Visayas State University Medical Center for gunshot wounds on his right hand and waist, which penetrated his stomach. He is now in stable condition.

Leyble surrendered to Iloilo Police Provincial Office director Police Colonel Ronaldo Palomo. He will undergo a paraffin test and ballistic examination.

The police officer will be facing a charge of frustrated homicide./PN
