BACOLOD City – Assistance has been provided to the family of late Patrolman Reden R. Agus following his death in a vehicular accident after serving as one of the augmentation forces during the MassKara Festival 2023 celebration.
The 31-year-old police officer was a resident of Barangay Hilamonan, Kabankalan City in Negros Occidental. He was assigned to Police Regional Office 6.
Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said the city had provided financial aid, among others, to the deceased cop’s family.
Benitez added that Agus has a 5-month-old child, which, according to Lieutenant Colonel Ronnie Brillo of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), may be granted by the National Police Commission with a scholarship.
The BCPO is also currently processing the necessary documents for the benefit claims.
Agus’ wife, Geraldine, wrote in a Facebook post with their wedding day photo: “My love, remember Gavin and I love you very much… Guide us always. I love you always, my forever buddy.”
Agus was on his way to visit his wife and baby on Oct. 23 when he was believed to have fallen asleep due to exhaustion.
His motorcycle swerved to the opposite lane and hit an oncoming canter truck at around 2:15 a.m. on the national highway in Purok Ipil-Ipil, Barangay San Juan, Pontevedra, Negros Occidental.
He was taken to the Valladolid District Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Truck driver Sony Elot, 46, of Barangay Inayawan, Cauayan, Negros Occidental, was brought to the Pontevedra Police Station for proper disposition./PN
