ILOILO City – Preparations are all set in this city for the observance of All Saint’s and All Soul’s days on Nov. 1 and 2, respectively.

Mayor Jerry Treñas said coordination have been made with the frontline offices such as the Iloilo City Police Office, Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO), City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, City Health Office, City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), and Local Economic Enterprise Office to ensure that everything will be in place.

For his part, CENRO head Engr. Neil Ravena said they will assign personnel to monitor cemeteries.

There are three city-run public cemeteries: Quintin Salas, Jereos and Tanza. Big cemeteries include Forest Lake in Mandurriao district anf the Catholic Cemetery in Jaro district.

Ravena said 320 streetsweepers will be deployed in different roads leading to the cemeteries to ensure the cleanliness and safety of the areas.

He added that several portalets would be stationed for easy access of people who are visiting their departed loved ones.

Black garbage bags and trash bins are also placed in cemeteries while six dump trucks will be used to collect them.

The PSTMO, meanwhile, assured that traffic aides are on alert to ensure the smooth traffic flow on roads leading to various cemeteries in the city.

PSTMO head Jeck Conlu also reminded the public to avoid bringing bladed and deadly weapons, adding that stiffer penalty await violators due to the ongoing election gun ban./PN
