BACOLOD City – The city government will be implementing a 2-day full road closure along Burgos Street in the North Public Cemetery (Burgos Cemetery) during the observance of “Fiesta Minatay.”
Police Major Junji Liba, head of the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO), said the closure will start at 6 a.m. on Nov. 1 (All Saints’ Day) until 6 p.m. on Nov. 2 (All Souls’ Day).
Public utility vehicles plying the routes from Fortune Town, Granada, Alangilan, Homesite, Sta. Fe and San Dionisio going to Burgos and Central markets will be affected by the road closure.
Following the road closure, there will be a rerouting scheme along Lopez Jaena-Burgos streets, Liba said.
Vehicles would have to enter Barangay Villamonte through Ilang-Ilang Street, then exit on Ylac Street, or from Burgos Street, then pass through Ylac Street going to North Drive.
According to LIba, at the Burgos Cemetery area alone, around 22 traffic enforcers will be deployed.
“There would be a possibility that vehicles would not fit on the road, which may cause traffic. So, we decided to implement one-way traffic along the streets of Ilang-ilang and Ylac for the rerouting,” the BTAO head disclosed.
Liba clarified that on Oct. 31, Burgos Street will be partially closed as designated vending areas for flowers and candles. The other designated areas were the Bacolod City Public Plaza along the streets of Gonzaga and San Juan and the Libertad Market along Hernaez and Mabini streets.
Of the 14 public and private cemeteries in this city, Liba said the BTAO is focused on the roads around Burgos Cemetery, which always had traffic concerns during the “Fiesta Minatay.”
The BTAO will also be implementing a one-way traffic scheme in the Acropolis Cemetery area./PN
