ILOILO – In Pavia town, a stray bullet incident was reported in Barangay Balabag during the New Year celebrations.
A local homeowner discovered a bullet on their kitchen floor while cleaning past 2 a.m. on Jan. 1, according to Major Rolando Araño, spokesperson for the Iloilo Police Provincial Office.
An examination of the house revealed a hole in the ceiling where the bullet entered. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the household.
The indiscriminate discharge of firearms is a criminal offense under Republic Act 11926, carrying penalties of one to 30 days imprisonment and a P40,000 fine.
In a similar incident, a resident in Zone 7, Barangay Don Esteban, Lapuz, Iloilo City, claimed to the press finding a bullet fragment on their toilet floor during New Year’s celebrations.
However, Lieutenant Maryglo Morden, officer-in-charge of Iloilo City Police Station 2, said this case is yet to be reported to the police./PN
