ILOILO City – Mayor Jerry Treñas yesterday ordered to install charging stations in key locations in this city following the power outage that started on Tuesday, Jan. 2.
Residents can charge their gadgets while the electricity is not yet restored in these designated free charging stations:
* Jaro Plaza band stand
* Molo Plaza (at ABC Kapihan)
* Block 22 barangay hall in Mandurriao district
* Tennis court area in La Paz Plaza
* Kerr and Co. Building (in front of Iloilo City Hall)
Power outage was being experienced in Panay, Guimaras, and parts of Negros Occidental.
At around 2:20 p.m. on Tuesday, almost simultaneously, electric cooperatives in Western Visayas released public advisories about an unexpected power interruption.
Treñas expressed his frustration.
“I am utterly dismayed that due to an unstable supply the whole Panay Island can be totally isolated. I call on the Department of Energy (DOE) and National Grid Corporation of the Philippine (NGCP) to resolve this problem at the earliest possible time. I also call on NGCP to find a more sustainable solution to the problem,” the city mayor said.
Due to the blackout, Treñas was forced to order an early dismissal of employees at the Iloilo City Hall. He also suspended classes in all levels in the city on Jan. 3.
Also yesterday, the city mayor announced the suspension of classes in all levels both for public and private schools on Jan. 4 pending restoration of power in the city.
