ILOILO City – There must be no let-up in the war against illegal drugs in Western Visayas.
This was the marching order of Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Benjamin Acorda Jr. to the newly installed director of Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6), Brigadier General Jack Wanky.
Wanky assumed his new post yesterday, Feb. 19, in a turnover ceremony attended by Acorda and other high-ranking officials from Camp Crame.
He took over from Major General Sidney Villaflor, who will be the acting chief of the PNP’s Human Resource and Doctrine Development (HRDD) in Camp Crame.
“This is a big challenge for the new director of PRO-6. Kung hindi nya mapantayan ang accomplishments ni outgoing director dapat malampasan nya,” Acorda said.
PRO-6 records showed that since Villaflor assumed the role of PRO-6 director eight months ago, there were 1,630 drug operations carried out in the region, which resulted in the arrest of 2,137 drug suspects, 390 of whom were high-value drug pushers. An estimated P390 million worth of shabu were seized.
On the other hand, Wanky admitted that he needs to exert more effort in the campaign against illegal drugs.
“I need to fill in a big shoe because of numerous drug accomplishments during the stint of the outgoing director. But we would be successful with the help of the community, stakeholders, and other concerned agencies,” Wanky said./PN
