MANILA – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. joined other world leaders in condemning a shooting rampage at the Crocus City Hall in Moscow, Russia that left 115 people dead.
In a post on his X account over the weekend, the Chief Executive stated that the Philippines stands united with the rest of the world in condemning the senseless terrorism in all forms.
“I am profoundly saddened by the innocent lives lost in the horrific ISIS attack at the concert hall in Moscow,” Marcos said. “My deepest condolences to the families affected by this senseless act of terrorism.”
Camouflaged gunmen opened fire at the packed Crocus City Hall in Moscow’s northern suburb of Krasnogorsk on Friday evening ahead of a concert by Soviet-era rock band Piknik in the deadliest attack in Russia for at least a decade.
The Islamic State earlier claimed responsibility for the attack, but Russian officials have yet to acknowledge that the terror group was behind the killing, with some observers noting that IS has yet to show evidence to back their claim.
Meanwhile, Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) spokesperson Teresita Daza said no Filipino were reportedly affected by the said mass shooting at a concert hall in Moscow, Russia.
“The Philippine Embassy in Moscow reported that there are no Filipinos affected in the attack and has advised the Filipino community in Moscow to undertake the necessary precautions following the attack,” Daza said in a statement.
“The Philippines strongly condemns the heinous attack at the Crocus Hall in Moscow on 22 March 2024, which resulted in the loss of innocent lives, caused injuries to several people, and significantly damaged properties,” she added.
Aside from President Marcos, leaders from other nations, namely the United States, France, Spain and Italy, have also expressed condemnation of the incident.
Ukraine — which is at war with Russia — has distanced itself from the shooting incident, saying its offensive against Moscow is limited to battlefields./PN
