ILOILO City – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) Reion 6 is on high alert for Holy Week.
Yesterday, LTO-6 commenced its “Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Semana Santa and Summer Vacation 2024.”
Jonas Torres, spokesperson for LTO-6, said he issued directives to their district offices to be on heightened alert for the anticipated influx of motorists and passengers.
Torres reminded his personnel to be extra vigilant over the upcoming long weekend.
He further elaborated that they will establish help desks at various terminals across Western Visayas, where they will also conduct inspections to ensure the roadworthiness of public utility vehicles (PUVs).
Here, Torres reminded PUV drivers not to overly take advantage of the passenger volume and instead should still be compliant with the unit’s intended capacity as overloading could pose serious road risks.
LTO-6 is teaming up with other regional law enforcement agencies, such as the Philippine National Police, the Philippine Coast Guard, and the Armed Forces of the Philippines, to monitor terminals, ports, airports, and other places of convergence.
This initiative aims to ensure the safety of the riding public and the efficiency of travel during Holy Week and the summer vacation period./PN
