BACOLOD City – The El Niño phenomenon has caused approximately P115.2 million in damage in Negros Occidental.
A report from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA), released on Wednesday, April 10, revealed that 22 provinces and cities in Negros Occidental have been affected by El Niño.
The intense weather condition has impacted 3,312 farmers with 2,737 hectares of cultivated land.
Rice crops suffered losses of P110.4 million and about P4.7 million for corn.
Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson has announced that the provincial government is processing a financial aid of P2,000 for affected farmers with crops damaged by El Niño.
The city of Kabankalan has been hit the hardest, experiencing a P41.9 million loss due to the dry spell.
The town of San Enrique, which was placed under a state of calamity on Monday, recorded at least P9 million in losses to its agriculture sector. The fourth district, a rice-producing town, has been implementing a water rationing system and pushing for cloud seeding operations. (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
