MANILA – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is hoping for stronger relations between the Philippines and Qatar in common fields of interests.
The Chief Executive made the statement following his bilateral meeting with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, on Monday morning at the Malacañang Palace.
“’We are honored for the inclusion of the Philippines in Your Highness’ visit to this part of Asia this April,” President Marcos said.
“’With the Philippines and Qatar sharing 43 years of deep friendship and cooperation, I am certain that our discussions today will translate to stronger collaboration in common fields of interests,” he added.
According to Marcos, he hopes that his discussion with the Sheikh will open opportunities to “improve and strengthen our bilateral relations at every level; at the commercial level, at the government-to-government level, at the people-to-people level.”
President Marcos is also expected to sign some agreements with the Qatari leader during their meeting.
The Qatari leader is in the Philippines for a two-day state visit upon the invitation of President Marcos, according to the Presidential Communications Office.
The last state visit by the Qatari Emir to the Philippines was in 2012 by Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the current leader’s father./PN
