BACOLOD City – A regular employee of the City Treasurer’s Office (CTO) has resigned amid allegation of tampering an official receipt.
City Legal Officer Romeo Carlos Ting Jr. confirmed that the collecting officer at the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) resigned from her post effective April 26, 2024.
Prior to the employee’s resignation, a notice to explain had been served by City Treasurer Arlene Memoria, giving the latter 72 hours to reply.
Ting said due to the resignation, no more administration charge will be filed.
However, Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said the resigned employee can still be criminally liable.
Based on their initial investigation, Ting said the resigned employee received a payment of P1,300 from a traffic violator/complainant, but the amount indicated in the official receipt was allegedly P300 only.
Meanwhile, the City Legal Office would recommend to the city mayor the suspension of BTAO head Patrick Lacson due to “light” offenses.
Ting said Lacson brought a government vehicle to his house and allegedly removed the city’s logo sticker, and issued a memorandum that set a quota of five apprehensions a day to traffic enforcers./PN
