ILOILO City – Jefferson Yating hopes to follow the footsteps of his “idol” journalists such as veteran broadcasters Ted Failon and the late Mike Enriquez.
A freshman student currently taking up Bachelor of Arts in Broadcasting at the West Visayas State University (WVSU), Yating was elated as he went up on stage to receive the scholarship in a ceremony at the school’s cultural center on Thursday.
Yating was one of the 1,500 student-beneficiaries of the Integrated Scholarships and Incentives Program (ISIP).
He voiced his gratitude to House Speaker Martin Romualdez on behalf of the student-beneficiaries.
“I am deeply honored to receive this scholarship and begin a new chapter in my academic career. Your unwavering commitment to address our educational needs fills us with a sense of responsibility and purpose,” Yating said.
He stressed the significant impact of the ISIP, an initiative of the office of Speaker Romualdez, in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
He emphasized the program’s role in nurturing the potential of young scholars like himself.
“This is not merely a financial support but a powerful affirmation of our aspirations and a testament to the unwavering commitment of ISIP to our educational needs,” Yating added.
He also expressed his gratitude to his family, mentors, and educators, acknowledging their pivotal role in his development.
“Your unconditional support will be our greatest source of strength and the cornerstone of our educational journey,” Yating said.
As he navigates the future, the young scholar vowed to remain committed in leveraging such opportunity to achieve his educational goals with diligence, integrity, and passion.
“Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for believing in us and investing in our future. God bless you all!” he said.
The ceremony was attended by Romualdez, CHED chairperson Dr. Prospero De Vera and Iloilo’s Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr.
The ISIP aims to support outstanding students by providing them with the necessary resources to succeed in their educational pursuits, with the end goal of fostering a generation of well-educated and responsible citizens./PN
