MANILA – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has ordered the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards to initiate a timely review of the minimum wage rates in every region.
According to the Chief Executive, the review of wages, which should be done within 60 days prior to the anniversary of the latest wage order, is with due consideration to the impact of inflation.
“I call on the National Wages and Productivity Commission to review its rules to ensure that the Boards are able to maintain a regular and predictable schedule of wages review, issuance, and effectivity to reduce uncertainty and enhance fairness for all stakeholders,” Marcos said.
The President also acknowledged the invaluable efforts of the Filipino laborers, not only in providing the needs of their families, but also in contributing to the development of the Philippine economy.
“On this special day, we recognize the invaluable contributions of our hardworking men and women whose grit and resilience have paved the way for our national development,” Marcos said.
“From the bustling cities to the remote fields in the countryside, it is the labor of the Filipino that propels us forward, fueling our economy and sustaining the very fabric of our society,” he added
“We also pay homage to all the people who raised their voices in the pursuit of social justice, championing the rights of workers and ensuring that their efforts are duly valued and compensated,” the President further said.
Marcos also noted that his government continues to support the working class and uphold the principles of fairness, dignity, and equity across all workspaces.
“Under the banner of a Bagong Plipinas, we will usher in an era of greater prosperity where opportunities abound, creating a society where every worker is cherished, respected, and empowered to thrive,” he said.
President Marcos has declared May 1 as a regular holiday pursuant to Proclamation No. 368 dated October 11, 2023./PN
