Wounded cop gets ‘Kagitingan’ medal

BACOLOD City – A police officer who was wounded in a buy-bust operation was given an award.

Police Brigadier General Jack Wanky, director of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6), and Police Colonel Rainerio de Chavez, director of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO), conferred the Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting to 40-year-old Staff Sergeant Ronie Melgar on Saturday, June 8.

Melgar, who is currently confined at the Riverside Medical Center in this city, also received financial assistance from the PRO-6.

The police officer of the Toboso Municipal Police Station sustained a gunshot wound on his right arm after he was shot by one of the three drug suspects during a buy-bust operation in Sitio Felisa, Barangay Magticol, Toboso, Negros Occidental around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 8./PN
