BACOLOD City – To enhance public accessibility, the Bacolod City Government is planning to relocate all offices that directly serve the public to the ground floor of the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC).
As announced by City Civil Registrar Hermilo Pa-oyon, this initiative aims to facilitate easier access for seniors, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and pregnant individuals.
The decision followed Pa-oyon’s dialogue with Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez who expressed his intent for this arrangement even before the ongoing construction of the legislative building began.
Pa-oyon emphasized the practical benefits of this move, saying, “There will be no need for our senior citizens, pregnant women, and persons with disabilities to climb stairs to reach offices like the Tax Division for paying real property taxes, or the Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) for assistance.”
Additionally, Pa-oyon has requested a storage room to better organize the overflowing documents currently cluttering the Civil Registry office, describing the current situation as resembling a warehouse.
He anticipates the new storage room will be located on the second floor once the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) vacates the area for the new legislative building.
The construction of the P515-million four-storey legislative building, which began in December 2023, is expected to be completed within 800 days./PN
