MANILA – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. extended his congratulations to Carlos Edriel Yulo after the latter’s gold medal win in the men’s floor exercise event of the 2024 Paris Olympics on Saturday night in Paris, France.
The Chief Executive said Yulo’s victory was a historic moment for the Philippines, and he is confident that it will not be the last medal the country will win in the Summer Games.
“We’ve witnessed history as Carlos Yulo clinched the Philippines’ first gold medal in artistic gymnastics at the Paris 2024 Olympics,” President Marcos said in a social media post on midnight Sunday.
“I am confident that it will not be the last,” he added. “Congratulations, Caloy! The entire country stands proud with you!”
During his third State of the Nation Address last month, President Marcos wished Yulo and the rest of Team Philippines the best of luck in their competitions at the Paris Olympics.
Yulo captured the men’s floor exercise gold medal after garnering 15.000 points from the judges, beating Israel’s Artem Dolgopyat and Great Britain’s Jake Jarman, who settled for silver and bronze, respectively.
The 24-year-old Yulo is guaranteed to get a P10-million incentive from the government, as mandated by Republic Act 10699 signed in 2015.
Yulo is also expected to be rewarded with a P24-million condominium unit pledged by Megaworld. The condominium unit is located at their 50-hectare McKinley Hill township in Taguig City.
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives said on Saturday evening that they are awarding Yulo with P3 million cash in recognition of his historic achievement.
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Carlos Yulo for securing the first Olympic gold medal for the Philippines at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games,” said House appropriations panel chair and Ako Bicol Rep. Zaldy Co.
“Carlos has shown that with determination and resilience, Filipinos can excel and achieve greatness in any field,” the party-list representative added./PN
