MANILA – Khat Bell took over the scoring in the fifth set as Chery Tiggo Crossovers prevailed over PLDT High Speed Hitters, 25-19, 20-25, 25-20, 21-25, 15-10, in the PVL Reinforced Conference on Saturday night at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
The American reinforcement finished with a season-high of 39 points built on 33 attacks, five blocks, and a service ace as the Crossovers returned to their winning ways for a 3-1 win-loss slate.
After failing to close out the High Speed Hitters in the fourth set, the Crossovers responded with huge attacks from Bell in the fifth frame as they established a 13-9 advantage.
The High Speed Hitters cut the deficit to 10-13 on a conversion from Fiola Ceballos, but the Crossovers responded with two straight conversions from Victorinara Galang and Bell to seal the victory.
“Credit to my teammates because, in this game, they are dawgs,” Bell said after the game. “Our mindset in the fifth set is just we want to win. We will just keep getting better every day.”
Galang, for her part, contributed a season-best of 23 points for the Crossovers, which bounced back from their first defeat of the conference against the Creamline Cool Smashers last Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Farm Fresh Foxies notched a rare back-to-back victory after a 25-16, 25-15, 25-17 sweep of the NxLed Chameleons. The Foxies improved to a 2-2 win-loss slate, while the Chameleons dropped to 1-3.
Colombian import Yeni Murillo led the way with 22 points, including 21 attacks, for the Foxies, while Trisha Tubu contributed 16 markers in the victory.
With the score tied at 12-all in the third set, the Foxies went on a 13-5 finishing run behind Murillo and Trisha Tubu to wrap up the victory in straight sets.
