
BACOLOD City – Veteran mentor Sinfronio “Sammy” Acaylar has been hired as the head coach for Living Stones International School’s (LSIS) secondary boys and girls volleyball teams.
The arrival of the long-time University of Perpetual Help System Dalta Altas men’s volleyball team coach will serve as a significant boost to LSIS’ volleyball program.
“We are thrilled to have you, Coach Sammy Acaylar!,” Living Stones wrote on their social media page.
The 65-year-old Acaylar is known for his role with the Altas, which he led to 14 NCAA men’s volleyball tournament championship, including a four-peat twice.
Aside from his head coaching role for Perpetual Help’s men’s volleyball program, Acaylar also became the sports director of the school in 2017.
Acaylar also handled University of the East Red Warriors during their UAAP Season 80 campaign in 2018.
Professionally, Acaylar is the recent head coach of Imus City–AJAA Spikers in Spikers’ Turf men’s volleyball. He also previously handled Savouge Aesthetics.
In women’s volleyball, Acaylar has coached the Cignal HD Spikers and Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors in the Philippine Superliga, and recently Quezon City Gerflor Defenders in PVL.
Acaylar has also previously coached the Philippines men’s national team, including their bronze medal finish in the 1991 Southeast Asian Games. He was also part of the women’s team’s coaching staff that won gold in 1993 SEA Games.
At Living Stones, Acaylar will have the school’s former volleyball standout, Laurence Alaban, as his assistant./PN
