
ILOILO – Eight reelectionist municipal mayors in this province are virtually assured of victory in the upcoming May 12, 2025 midterm elections. They are running unopposed.
According to the Commission on Elections (Comelec), the following eight towns have no challengers to their incumbent mayors:
* Alimodian – Mayor Ian Keneth Alfeche (Partido Federal ng Pilipinas)
* Badiangan – Mayor Suzette Mamon (Partido Federal ng Pilipinas)
* Leganes – Mayor Vicente Jaen II (Nacionalista Party)
* Lemery – Mayor Oscar Villegas Jr. (Lakas-CMD)
* Maasin – Mayor Francisco Amboy (Partido Federal ng Pilipinas)
* Oton – Mayor Sofronio Fusin Jr. (Nacionalista Party)
* Pavia – Mayor Laurence Anthony Gorriceta (Nacionalista Party)
* Santa Barbara – Mayor Dennis Superficial (Partido Federal ng Pilipinas)
In addition, two candidates for vice mayor and nine incumbent vice mayors are also running unopposed:
* Alimodian – Vice Mayor Geefre Alonsabe (Partido Federal ng Pilipinas)
* Anilao – Lyka Joy Debuque (Nacionalista Party)
* Badiangan – Vice Mayor Cylas Jun Nobleza (Partido Federal ng Pilipinas)
* Dumangas – Vice Mayor Ronaldo Golez (Nacionalista Party)
* Guimbal – Vice Governor Christine Garin (Lakas-CMD)
* Igbaras – Vice Mayor Sherwin Paul Quidato (Lakas-CMD)
* Lambunao – Vice Mayor Arvin Losaria (Partido Federal ng Pilipinas)
* Leganes – Vice Mayor Lyle Bartolome (Nacionalista Party)
* Maasin – Vice Mayor Vicente Albacete (Partido Federal ng Pilipinas)
* Pavia –Vice Mayor Edsel Gerochi (Nacionalista Party)
* Tubungan – Vice Mayor Leo Cezar Taypen (Lakas-CMD)
According to Comelec Region 6 director Atty. Dennis Ausan, these unopposed candidates need just one vote to officially win their respective positions.
They are among the nearly 1,000 individuals who filed their certificates of candidacy for various elective positions in the city and province of Iloilo for the May 12, 2025 elections.
The official campaign period for local candidates, including those running for congressional district lawmaker and other local positions, will begin on March 28, 2025, and will run until May 10, 2025.
Key dates for the 2025 midterm elections are as follows:
* January 12 to June 11, 2025 – election period, including gun ban and other restrictions
* February 11 to May 10, 2025 – campaign period for Senate and party-list candidates
* March 28 to May 10, 2025 – campaign period for local candidates
* April 13 to May 12, 2025 – overseas voting
* April 28 to 30, 2025 – local absentee voting
* May 11, 2025 – liquor ban
* May 12, 2025 – election day
* June 11, 2025 – deadline for filing Statement of Contributions and Expenditures/PN
