MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) said there is a slight increase in homicide cases from January 1 to October 18 this year.
Homicide cases moved up by around 4.39 percent in the said time frame, according to PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo, citing PNP data.
Fajardo, however, said there is a reduction in other “focus crimes” like murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, theft, robbery, car theft, and motorcycle theft.
She also noted that, overall, the crime rate for the period from January 1 to October 18 this year is 8.43% lower than in the same period last year.
“There were 152,024 crime incidents tallied during the period, down from 166,013 last year. So that would translate to 8.43% reduction or [fewer crimes by] 13,989,” Fajardo said.
In the same period, Fajardo added, P18.9 billion worth of illegal drugs have been seized and over 47,000 suspects have been arrested in 39,153 police operations./PN
