ILOILO City – A 75-year-old man was found dead in a river in Barangay Boulevard, Molo district by his own son yesterday morning, December 8.
Police identified the victim as Roberto Mallones Sr., a resident of the said place.
According to Captain Ryan Christ Inot, officer-in-charge of the Molo police station, Mallones was last seen by his son fishing and drinking by the river on Saturday.
“He was alone while drinking by the river, and the next day, his family found him lifeless in the water,” Inot said.
The police have ruled out foul play in the death, pointing to the likelihood that the strong river current swept Mallones away.
Inot emphasized that the investigation confirmed no signs of struggle or external injuries, supporting the theory that the victim was overpowered by the river’s flow.
His family also believes the incident was purely accidental.
Police, meanwhile, urge residents to exercise caution, especially during the rainy season, when river currents can become unpredictable./PN
