MANILA – Kevin Quiambao delivered another impressive offensive game as Goyang Sono Skygunners prevailed over Seoul Samsung Thunders, 76-63, in the Korean Basketball League on Sunday at the Jamsil Indoor Stadium.
The former De La Salle University Green Archers standout finished with a team-high of 17 points to go with six assists and five rebounds as the Skygunners moved up to 12-25 in the standings.
Lee Jae-do backed up Quiambao offensively with 14 points to go with four rebounds and three assists while DJ Burns Jr. contributed 10 markers, five assists, and four rebounds in the win.
“Above all, the defense was good. The players had the will to do it. There was nothing changed defensively. I talked about the details and the players did well,” expressing his feelings about the game,” Skygunners head coach Kim Tae-sul said after the game.
“During the team meeting before the game, other players showed a determined appearance. The players gained confidence and gained strength with quick transitions,” he added.
Kofi Cockburn finished with 18 points and nine rebounds, while Filipino guard Justin Gutang added six points, three rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block as the Samsung Thunders dropped to a 12-25 record.
Meanwhile, Negrense Samjosef Belangel missed on a game-tying triple as the Daegu Korea Gas Corporation Pegasus suffered a 69-66 defeat to the Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus at the Daegu Gymnasium.
Down 66-69 following two free throws by Pegasus’ Gaige Prim, Belangel had a chance to send the game into overtime but he failed to connect his outside shot attempt at the buzzer.
Belangel finished the game with 10 points, two rebounds, and two assists in 31 minutes of action as the Pegasus saw their winning streak snapped to drop to a 20-17 win-loss slate.
“He’s been playing a lot. He definitely has physical problems. He moves a lot. I think his shooting balance was shaken because of the physical problems. I think he needs to rest and recover well,” Pegasus head coach Kang Hyuk said on Belangel./PN
