Petro Gazz topples Capital1 to reach PVL q’finals

MANILA – Petro Gazz Angels soared to the PVL 2nd All-Filipino Conference quarterfinals with a 25-19, 25-23, 25-21 straight set win over Capital1 Solar Energy Solar Spikers at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

Myla Pablo finished with 17 points, on 15 attacks, one block, and a service ace, to be named Player of the Game as the Angels became the third team to reach the round-of-8.

“Ginagawa ko lang ‘yung best ko, and siyempre madami rin ang nagtitiwala sa akin, and I know madami akong napagdaanan this conference kaya ipinapakita ko lang kung sino talaga ako,” Pablo said.

“Thankful din ako sa mga coaches ko, mga teammates ko, mga setters ko kaya nagagawa ko ‘yung kailangan kong gawin,” added the former National University Lady Bulldogs standout.

Brooke Van Sickle led the way for the Angels with 19 points, on 15 attacks, two blocks, and two service aces, while MarJana Phillips added 10 markers and Ilongga Aiza Maizo-Pontillas contributed nine markers.

Leila Cruz finished with 16 points, on 15 attacks and one block, while Jorelle Singh added 10 markers for the Solar Spikers, which were relegated to the play-in round with the loss.

Meanwhile, Choco Mucho Flying Titans secured a 25-22, 25-22, 25-23 straight-set romp over ths slumping Chery Tiggo Crossovers to also advance to the quarterfinals round.

Cherry Ann Rondina tallied 18 points, built on 16 attacks, one block, and one service ace, to go with 11 excellent digs as the Flying Titans clinched a quarterfinals seat with their dominant win over the Crossovers.

Dindin Santiago-Manabat added 13 markers, all coming from attacks, while rookie middle blocker Lorraine Pecana contributed six markers, half of which came from blocks, for the Flying Titans.

Victonara Galang finished with 18 points, while Ilongga Ma. Shaya Adorador added 12 markers for the Crossovers, which is now relegated to the play-in round with the defeat./PN
