ILOILO – A routine truck repair ended in tragedy after a mechanic was fatally crushed while his colleague narrowly survived when their jack failed in Barangay Poblacion Ilawod, San Enrique town on Wednesday morning, March 5.
Fire Officer 2 Chris Evert A. Villones, chief of the San Enrique Fire Station’s Emergency Medical Service, said their team received a distress call around 9 a.m. and rushed to the scene, where they found two men trapped under the truck.
“The first victim, identified as alias ‘Leo,’ was motionless, with severe head injuries after being pinned under the bumper. His companion, alias ‘Rey,’ was still alive but trapped, so we had to lift the truck to free them,” Villones said.
Investigation revealed that the two were repairing the vehicle when the jack they were using suddenly slipped, causing the truck to collapse on top of them.
Emergency responders confirmed that Leo died on the spot.
The victims’ families, when reached for comment, described the incident as tragic and have decided to settle the matter privately./PN
