ILOILO — Authorities confiscated an estimated P952,000 worth of suspected shabu in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Barasan, Pototan town, on Sunday afternoon, leading to the arrest of four individuals.
The operation, conducted by the Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU) of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO), resulted in the seizure of eight sachets of suspected illegal drugs with a total weight of 140 grams.
Arrested were Elsie Cañete Peñaflorida, 49, a high-value suspect, along with suspects Marjoun Caen, 51; Shayn Java, 41; and Melvin Divinagracia, 21. All are residents of Pototan.
The suspects were held at the Pototan municipal police Station and faced charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act o 2002.
Shabu is a street name for methamphetamine hydrochloride, a highly addictive and illegal stimulant drug. It is a white, odorless, crystalline powder or crystal-like substance that is usually smoked, snorted, or injected.
Shabu is classified as a dangerous drug under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Possession, sale, or manufacture can lead to life imprisonment or even the death penalty (before it was abolished).
Shabu stimulates the central nervous system, giving users a false sense of energy, alertness, and confidence. It can suppress appetite and lead to sleep deprivation.
