BACOLOD City – The Bago City Government in Negros Occidental has pioneered the holding of World Disco Soup Day in Negros Island Region.
The event with the theme, “Save Our Food, Save Our Planet,” was successfully held on April 27 alongside the Slow Food Youth Network of Bago FRESH.
The World Disco Soup Day is an international campaign led by the Slow Food Youth Network to raise awareness on the issue of food waste through community action.
It started in Berlin as a “protest soup” and has since become a global celebration, transforming rescued food into delicious meals while dancing, learning, and advocating for sustainable food systems.
In Bago City, the celebration included demonstration of zero-waste cooking, slow food and drinks showcase and tasting, forum on organic farming, live band performances, and socials, among others.
The Bago City Tourism Affairs Office led by Senior Tourism Operations Officer Mae Ann Furtos reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability in the bid to further develop the local tourism industry.
For the Slow Food Youth Network of Bago FRESH headed by its community director, Joshua Romano, it is upbeat that the event will positively impact the community, particularly on strengthening awareness on reducing food wastage.
The group also unveiled its official logo during the event.
Also, the internally displaced families due to Mount Kanlaon eruption who are currently residing at the Payag sang Kapag-on Village in the city joined the celebration by bringing with them some of their agricultural products for sale.
The event further showcased several of the best slow food offerings of Bago City like the fermented batwan, santol ice cream, pumpkin-carrot soup with fried eel bits and candied squash seeds, chips made of vegetables and root crops, and many more./PN
