BACOLOD City – The Alliance of Concerned Consumers in Electricity and Social Services (ACCESS) based in Central Negros demands not only fair treatment but also transparency and accountability from utility companies that serve the consumers in the said area.
“We will not be silenced by empty promises or placated by token gestures,” the group said during their commemoration of the Consumers Solidarity Day yesterday, which coincided with the celebration of Labor Day.
ACCESS president Wennie Sancho assured that they stand united as consumers and their voices amplified by the collective strength of their solidarity.
“We mark this day not just as a celebration but also a declaration of our unwavering commitment to protect our rights and dignity,” ACCESS said.
They recognized that their power lies in their unity, and together they demanded fair treatment, transparency, and accountability from utility companies serving them.
“As we raise our voices, we remember the struggles of countless consumers who have been exploited, misled, and marginalized. We honor their resilience and determination, and we vow to continue their fight for a just and equitable marketplace,” the group added.
Sancho further said their solidarity is not just a rallying cry; it’s a beacon of hope for a better future.
“Let our collective voice be heard, and let our message be clear: we will no longer be treated as mere customers, but as the backbone of the economy, deserving of fairness, respect, and protection,” he emphasized.
Meanwhile, ACCESS held a forum yesterday reflecting its partnership with the Negros Electric Power Corporation (Negros Power).
The group recognized here the role of Negros Power as a distribution utility in driving economic growth and development in the Negros Island Region(NIR).
Its reliable and efficient services have created a favorable business environment, stimulating economic activity, it said.
On the other hand, ACCESS strongly condemned the dereliction of duty of the Bacolod City Water District-Prime Water that resulted to turbid water and water shortage in the city./PN
