ILOILO City – The city government has secured a P1.96-million donation from Bombo Radyo Philippines Foundation, Inc. to enhance the production of a locally developed Rice-Mongo-Sesame Blend (RMSB) aimed at improving child nutrition.

The funding, formalized through a Deed of Donation, will allow the city to procure essential raw ingredients for the RMSB — a ready-to-cook, nutrient-rich food blend designed for babies aged six months and above.

The donation is expected to benefit at least 10,000 Ilonggo children.

“This is an investment in our children’s future,” said Mayor Jerry Treñas, who led the recent ceremonial signing along with City Health Officer Dr. Mary Ann Poli-Diaz and Bombo Radyo Foundation Board Members Enrico Jacomille and Rogelio Forete Jr.

The RMSB production takes place at the Uswag Nutrition Center, which Bombo Radyo previously helped equip through an earlier contribution for processing machinery.

The center plays a key role in the city’s nutrition campaign by developing affordable, science-based complementary food for children in critical stages of growth.

While Treñas acknowledged the generosity of the foundation, he emphasized that sustained efforts are needed.

“This will be enough for now, but for long-term sustainability, we need more support,” he said, citing complementary initiatives like enhanced Nutribun production and training for local bakers.

Despite Iloilo City being among the local government units with the lowest child malnutrition rates in the country, Treñas said complacency is not an option.

“Every child deserves a fair start in life, and good nutrition is where it begins” he stressed./PN
