
LAOAG, Ilocos Norte – Antiqueño Josh Gabriel Salcedo had a record-setting performance in the secondary boys discus throw event of the 2025 Palarong Pambansa on Tuesday at the Ferdinand E. Marcos Memorial Stadium here.
The Valderrama, Antique native captured the gold medal with a new Palaro record of 45.52 meters, breaking the 42.86 meters set by Bacolodnon Airex Villanueva in Marikina City in 2023.
Negrense Mico Villaran, on the other hand, also had a remarkable performance by winning the secondary boys 110-meter hurdles gold medal for the third consecutive year.
The Romanito Maravilla National High School standout clocked in 14.00 seconds to win the gold, eclipsing the previous 14.68-second mark set by Patrick Unso in 2010.
“We are so happy because after how many years we got the record and I want to credit my coaches for it,” Villaran said. “Our hard work of training for long hours has paid off with this win.”
Also with a gold medal finishes in athletics are Ayena Dawn Cabalfin of Iloilo in the elementary girls 400-meter run and Eda Mae Arceo of Iloilo in the elementary girls 100-meter hurdles.
In arnis, Ilonggo Melchor Bataican captured the teo gold medal finishes in the elementary boys individual anyo double weapon and individual espada y daga events.
Negrense Johnmae Roxette Micoyco, on the other hand, settled for a silver medal finish in the secondary girls individual likha anyo double weapon event.
Merishka Rainne Ablao, Alexandria Victoria Ignacio, and Lindsy Lorraine Degayo of Capiz, on the other hand, claimed a bronze medal finish in the secondary girls poomsae team event.
In table tennis, Western Visayas captured three silver medals in the secondary boys, secondary girls, and elementary girls team events./PN
