MANILA – Colegio de San Juan de Letran Lady Knights made a return trip to the NCAA women’s volleyball Finals after a 30-28, 25-12, 25-21 sweep over Arellano University Lady Chiefs in the semifinals on Tuesday at the Playtime FilOil Arena in San Juan City.

Judiel Nitura tallied 17 points from 15 attacks and two blocks, to be named Player of the Game for the Lady Knights, who advanced to the NCAA Finals for the second consecutive year.

“Our coaches told us to focus on the game and to execute well what they instructed us to do during the match,” Nitura stated in a post-game interview aired at GTV.

“We were also advised not to force ourselves to do things that we do not usually perform in the game; rather, our movements on the court should come naturally,” she added.

Lady Knights head coach Oliver Almadro, for his part, said that he instructed his players to showcase their character in the game to achieve success.

“What I keep telling them is to focus on their character, and everything else will follow,” Almadro remarked. “I am also pleased that the players are adaptable to the changes I implemented, and we have made it back to the finals.”

The Lady Knights will once again face the defending champions College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers in a best-of-three championship series.

In the men’s division, Arellano University Chiefs forced a winner-take-all Game 2 after a 21-25, 25-23, 25-17, 25-13 win over Mapua University Cardinals.

AC Guinto spearheaded the offense with 19 points, on 14 attacks, four blocks, and one service ace, as the Chiefs dragged the second-seeded Cardinals to a winner-take-all Game 2 on Friday.

Carl Berdal contributed 13 points, 13 excellent receptions, and four excellent digs, while Jiwen Sinuto and Jake Pangilinan added 11 markers apiece for Arellano./PN
