DENR-Capiz gears up for Environment Month with series of activities

CAPIZ – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Capiz is set to mark Philippine Environment Month this June with a lineup of activities aimed at promoting ecological awareness and environmental protection.

During a recent PIA Kapihan Press Conference, Dr. Ernest Federiso, officer-in-charge and Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer (PENRO) of DENR-Capiz, announced that their office is fully prepared to carry out the scheduled month-long events.

The celebration kicked off on June 1 with a tree planting and coastal cleanup activity in the municipality of Pilar.

A series of other events will follow throughout the month, including:

* June 5 – World Environment Day

* June 6 to 7 – Ocean Camp featuring Dalaw Turo

* June 10 – Family Day featuring Larong Pinoy

* June 17 to June 18 – Pasidungog and ENRA Graduation

* June 19 – Sports Fest and Laro ng Lahi

* June 25 – Arbor Day Tree Growing 2025

* June 30 – Luntiang Pasasalamat

The DENR is also launching the month-long campaign β€œPlastikilig: Hugot para sa Kalikasan at Pag-ibig”, which uses creative expression to raise awareness about plastic pollution and its environmental impact.

According to Federiso, these activities are designed to increase public awareness and understanding of the urgent need to protect the environment in the face of climate change and other environmental threats.

Moreover, these initiatives are a vital reminder that everyone has a crucial role to play in caring for our natural resources and in fostering a collective commitment to safeguarding the environment for future generations.

The observance of Philippine Environment Month is in accordance with Proclamation No. 237, s. 1988, issued by then President Corazon Aquino, declaring June of every year as a time to intensify environmental consciousness among Filipinos./PN
